Safety

As you come on campus, please remember that, although we are a big family, you are responsible for the safety and well-being of your children. There is a team of volunteers who are dedicated to keeping our event as safe as possible, but there are steps you can take to stay safe:

1. If you see or hear something or someone that doesn’t look or feel right, please find one of the Safety Team members and let them know immediately. Trust your instincts and don’t be afraid to be wrong. We are available 24/7 and can be reached at (760) 337-9200.

2. Parents, always know where your competing and non-competing children are. Some creative parents have made cool-looking necklaces that incorporate Bluetooth based devices into them. It has been our experience that reported “missing children” didn’t know they were missing. Thankfully, every time it has come down to a communication issue between the child and parent.

3. Competitors should try not to walk around campus alone, especially at night. Clubs should assign “buddies” to each competitor so they can hold each other accountable for their location, but more importantly, to pray for each other.

4. Non-competing students should always be under the care and supervision of a responsible adult. Please don’t assign older siblings to watch over little ones without having adult oversight. In the recent past, there have been bands of littles roaming campuses without an adult watching over them.

5. Please be respectful of the campus and do not enter areas that are marked as non-competition or non-Stoa areas. If you need to explore, please do so in the assigned areas.

6. Establish a specific location on the campus where you will meet if, for some reason, you are separated. We recommend the centrally located grassy area outside the commons.

7. The Safety Team has volunteers who have been trained in first aid should a competitor, adult, or volunteer be injured. Campus Safety also has individuals who are trained and certified in first aid.

8. In case of a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 first and then the NITOC Safety Team and Concordia Public Safety.
